Celtics News: Ankle Injury Still Bothering Marcus Smart

The Boston Celtics fully committed to their rebuilding effort when they traded starting point guard Rajon Rondo to the Dallas Mavericks. That move indicated the team was moving forward with first round draft pick Marcus Smart as their point guard of the future.

Smart has been limited so far this season with an ankle injury he suffered on November 7, playing in just 12 games. According to Comcast SportsNet, the injury is still bothering the rookie.

Following Sunday night's loss, Smart acknowledged that he was experiencing some pain. "A little bit when I woke up; it was a little sore," Smart said. "It didn't swell, but it was definitely a little sore. But that's expected." When asked whether he was physically back to where he was before the injury, Smart said he's "not all the way but I'm here."

Smart is averaging 5.8 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 18.3 minutes per game so far this year, though his role has increased drastically since the Rondo trade.
