In a free-agent class that initially featured legitimate top-six wingers like Nikolaj Ehlers and Brock Boeser, Matej Blumel’s body of work in the NHL doesn’t exactly stand out.
The 25–year-old Czech winger has only appeared in 13 games at hockey’s highest level, scoring just two goals.
But when the Bruins made the call to sign Blumel to a one-year contract on July 1, Don Sweeney and Boston’s top brass weren’t focusing on his limited production with the Dallas Stars.
Rather, it was his track record of lighting the lamp with the Texas Stars, Dallas’ AHL affiliate.
