Washington’s Chris Petersen now Pac-12’s highest-paid coach, in top 20 nationally

Former Boise State football coach Chris Petersen signed a lucrative extension at the University of Washington that puts his salary atop the Pac-12 and is among the top 20 in the nation.

Washington formally announced Tuesday that Petersen has signed an extension through the 2023 season that will pay him $4.125 million in 2017 and caps out at $5.625 million at the end of the deal. Over the seven years, it’s an average of $4.87 million per season.

According to USA Today, Petersen’s 2016 salary was $3.6 million, 25th in the Football Bowl Subdivision and third in the Pac-12.
