NIT rules favor Boise State in opener at Washington | Idaho Statesman

Adjusting to a rule change this late in the season might seem like a problem, but Boise State men’s basketball coach Leon Rice doesn’t mind one bit.

NIT rules call for the 3-point line to be extended 20 inches, and that change could play in the Broncos’ favor when they open tournament play at 8 p.m. MT Wednesday against Washington (20-12) at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

“All of a sudden the 3-point line’s farther back against a team that zones,” Rice said. “Rats.”

The Broncos (23-8) like to stretch defenses with their 3-point prowess, and already have proven to be the most prolific team in program history behind the arc.
