Boise State men’s basketball assistant Phil Beckner has been promoted to associate head coach, the program announced Tuesday. Beckner recently finished his first year on head coach Leon Rice’s staff and was specifically in charge of skill development and practice plans, according to the release.

“Phil is a rising star in the coaching profession,” Rice said in a statement. “He is ready for and has earned an increased leadership responsibility within our program.”

Beckner is Rice’s third associate head coach in his eight seasons at the helm. Dave Wojcik and Jeff Linder served as Rice’s associate head coaches before leaving for head coaching jobs at San Jose State and Northern Colorado, respectively.
