MADISON, Wis. -- Statistically speaking, it will be nearly impossible for Wisconsin's newest defensive coordinator to replicate the success attained the past three seasons under Dave Aranda. First nationally in total defense. Second in scoring defense. Third in pass defense. Fourth in run defense. Accepting the challenge of adding to those results, then, required a certain type of person.
Wisconsin needed a coach familiar enough with Aranda's defensive principles to understand what works at Wisconsin. Yet the Badgers also coveted someone experienced, competitive and confident enough to embrace implementing whatever changes may be necessary to excel. In that regard, Justin Wilcox appears to be the right person tasked for the job.
