Rutgers midseason review: A rough start in Big Ten play

When Chris Ash left his role as Ohio State's co-defensive coordinator to take his first head coaching job at Rutgers, he knew the Scarlet Knights would face significant challenges. But what Ash has experienced through seven games may represent an even greater obstacle than he imagined.

Rutgers stands 2-5 overall, with four consecutive losses since beginning Big Ten play. During those four games, the Scarlet Knights have been outscored 174-14. The bulk of that damage came in consecutive scoreless losses to Ohio State and Michigan. But Rutgers actually went 11 quarters without scoring a point, which included the first three during a 24-7 loss to Illinois on Saturday.
