Illinois' final report into its investigation of player mistreatment cleared interim coach Bill Cubit of virtually all wrongdoing -- and could make the Illini's next choice for a head coach a little more difficult.
Cubit said back in August he wanted the permanent position, and it’s getting harder and harder to dismiss him as a candidate. The Illini already stand at 5-4, their best start since 2011 when Ron Zook was coach, and the firing of athletic director Mike Thomas only complicates another potential coaching search.
Thanks to Monday’s findings by a Chicago law firm, Cubit is now absolutely a solid candidate for the job.
