On weapons and worms: Jim Harbaugh's wacky analogies serve a purpose

Jim Harbaugh has no time for your hypothetical situations.

The Michigan coach was asked a relatively benign question Monday about a controversial targeting penalty in his team’s last game. The answer -- Harbaugh seemed to think it was an invitation to make excuses or explore alternate realities -- produced one of the more memorable quotes from a year that has been filled with entertaining moments.

"(I’m) not into the if-this if-that type of scenarios," Harbaugh said. "If worms had machine guns, then birds wouldn’t be scared of them."

He likely meant to say that it’s the worms who wouldn’t be scared of birds, but that’s a little beside the point.
