Ohio State's hiring of Greg Schiano proves the power of Urban Meyer

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- What was supposed to be a a crucial offseason for Urban Meyer is basically over before it even officially started.

Meyer didn't quite need five days to fill arguably the most important spot on his coaching staff, wrapping up his top postseason business weeks before Ohio State even leaves for its bowl trip.

And once again, the Buckeyes coach left little doubt about his recruiting ability with his home-run hiring of former Rutgers coach Greg Schiano as his new co-defensive coordinator.

Meyer may not have any easy solutions for replacing the void left by a handful of potential first-round NFL draft picks skipping their final years of eligibility this offseason, no matter how many elite players he’s signed in his last few classes.
