Disaster averted? We'll see. The Northwestern Wildcats are at least veering back on to a better path after starting the season 1-3, including a 9-7 loss to FCS-level Illinois State.
"We weren't very good," head coach Pat Fitzgerald said this past Saturday after the Wildcats pulled their record to an even 3-3 with a win at Michigan State. "I have zero answers other than that we didn't coach well enough and didn't play well enough, but we have stayed the course and kept grinding. Good things usually happen when you respond."
The Wildcats have vacillated between five-win seasons and 10-win seasons for the last half decade.
