Nobody in Iowa City escapes the political whirlwind that sweeps through town in an election year, not even the football players.
At a rally held by presidential candidate Donald Trump on Tuesday night, several Iowa football players joined Trump on stage and presented him with an unofficial Hawkeyes jersey with his name printed on the back. Walk-on tight end Peter Pekar spoke to the crowd and starting quarterback C.J. Beathard was among the other players on stage. Several Hawkeye wrestlers also joined in the festivities.
There's no telling if Trump will benefit from the football team's popularity after the Hawkeyes' 12-2 season and Big Ten West Division title in 2015.
