A year ago, the Big Ten sent an unprecedented batch of talent running backs into the professional ranks. The top six backs in the league last year averaged 1,877 rushing yards each. Five of them -- all but Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott -- are on NFL rosters this season.
Their mass exit left a void. This year’s top six Big Ten backs ran for an average of 1,195 yards apiece. But fear not, fans of Midwestern football values and bruising, 30-carry, 200-yard performances. The future of running back in the Big Ten is bright.
