Dan Voltz's 'bittersweet' position switch bolsters Wisconsin offensive line

MADISON, Wis. -- The competitor in Dan Voltz briefly wondered this spring whether he should really surrender a starting position he'd clutched for parts of three years at Wisconsin. The pragmatist, however, knew that in order to move forward, he had to let go of the past.

So Voltz made a decision that stunned his teammates and strengthened the Badgers' entire offensive line: The fifth-year senior volunteered to move from center to guard so that sophomore Michael Deiter could take over at center on a full-time basis.

"It's a little weird," Voltz said Sunday during Wisconsin's annual media day.
