The Russians paid 15 million rubles -- about $230,000 -- to build Sputnik 1 back in 1957. Jim Harbaugh's early foray into satellites ended up being a bit more expensive for Michigan's football program six decades later.

Michigan paid $334,712 to fund its 30-day international football camp blitz this June, according to a budget received via Freedom of Information requests. Harbaugh's satellite camp tour included 39 events in 22 states, along with trips to American Samoa and Australia, while kicking up a storm of disapproval from coaches and administrators in other football conferences. The school said the costs of the unprecedented tour were offset by an anonymous donor.
