Patrick Tiernan of Villanova won the 2016 NCAA Cross Country Championships held at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind.
Tiernan’s time over the 10K race was 29:22.0. He is the first Villanova NCAA winner in the men’s championship since 1963. Last year, Tiernan finished second in the NCAAs.
Georgetown’s Scott Carpenter was the next highest BIG EAST finisher, taking 10th in a time of 30:03.0.
In the men’s team results, Georgetown finished 21st and Providence was 24th.
On the women’s side, Providence was the highest BIG EAST team finisher, taking 13th place.
