STORRS, Conn. – Devon Casazza's RBI double to right center propelled the UConn (21-18) softball team past Villanova (32-13), 4-3, Thursday afternoon at Burrill Family Field in the first round of the BIG EAST Softball Championships.
The Huskies advance to play the Butler Bulldogs tomorrow afternoon with first pitch slated for 12:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast on FS2.
UConn opened up the offense in the top of the third when Aziah James stepped up to the plate and singled up the middle. A couple batters later Reese Guevarra added a single of her own to advance the UConn runners ahead and load up the bases before Jana Sanden's RBI single to left field scored the leadoff Wivell to put the Huskies on the board first.
