AUSTIN, Texas -- West Virginia is 8-1 and still searching for a little respect.

And maybe that won’t change much this week, because a 24-20 road win over a Texas team that’s now 4-5 isn’t a big needle-mover nationally. But this is a quality, battle-tested team that just logged another tough, meaningful win.

The Mountaineers are No. 16 in the College Football Playoff rankings after two rounds of voting and still find themselves slotted behind nine two-loss teams. The path to start moving ahead of those teams is obvious: Beat No. 11 Oklahoma next Saturday in Morgantown.
