In 2000, Texas Tech decided it had to do something drastic to compete with the big boys of college football. So the Red Raiders hired Mike Leach to install the air raid attack, which at the time, was still uncommon. The unique scheme gave Tech an edge and fueled its successful run under Leach through the 2000s.
To seriously compete in the Big 12, Iowa State likewise has to attempt something drastic.
