Missouri’s offense must improve across the board if the Tigers are to rebound from last season’s tumble in the SEC East standings.
But with West Virginia’s big-play offense on the opposing sideline this Saturday, improving in one particular area will be a smart move for the Tigers. They must do a better job of sustaining drives.
Simply put, Missouri was pitiful on third down last season, with neither its impotent running game nor its inconsistent passing game capable of moving the chains consistently. The Tigers ranked 122nd out of 128 FBS programs in third-down conversions (30.34 percent), and failing to improve there will be a recipe for disaster against a Mountaineers team that typically sits among the national leaders in scoring and total offense.
