Q&A: Ahmad Thomas and Oklahoma's improved secondary staying humble

Oklahoma’s defense looks much improved after struggling a year ago.

Junior safety Ahmad Thomas has played a key role in the Sooners' improvement, which promises to be tested with Baylor, TCU and Oklahoma State remaining on the schedule. Thomas has 47 tackles (second on the team), including 29 solo stops, 1.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and one interception. He took some time to chat with ESPN.com this week.

What’s the biggest growth from your freshman year to now?

Thomas: Being more patient and not jumping the gun on everything when I’m on the field because sometimes I’d jump the gun and that’s how a lot of dudes got behind me.
