West Virginia got good news in both the football and basketball programs when it received a thumbs up on an eligibility issue in the former and positive reviews on newquomers to the hoops squad.
At the football complex, West Virginiahead coach Dana Holgorsen announced that freshman wide receiver Jovon Durante had received clearance from the NCAA to begin practice. Durante, a speedy wideout who also got the chance to catch some punts on his first day on the field, was one of the Mountaineers' highest-rated recruits in the Class of 2105.
While Holgorsen downplayed the news by making a crack about newcomers rescuing the program, the fact is that Durante's clearance is a plus.
