Taking the field against Oklahoma State on Oct. 10 brought a unique feeling for West Virginia safety K.J. Dillon.

After starting alongside Karl Joseph for 20 games, Dillon took the field against the Cowboys without his bookend safety, who had been lost for the year with a knee injury suffered during practice in preparation for Oklahoma State.

“Everyone’s heart was broken when he went down,” Dillon said. “It was hard, just looking over to the other side of the field and he wasn’t there. I just knew I had to do my stuff and just make him proud.
