LUBBOCK, Texas -- How many wins does Charlie Strong need now to save his job?
Let’s start with that tiresome question, because that’s all people seem to care about. Now that Texas is 5-4 and has a reasonable shot at 7-5, that loaded question is sure to be popular again.
His bosses, Texas president Greg Fenves and athletic director Mike Perrin, have had no reason to fret about this, because for weeks it’s seemed clear Strong would basically make the decision for them on the field. If he wins a bunch in the final stretch, they will be content to make no change.
