Kansas State senior forward Dean Wade was named the Big 12’s preseason player of the year in balloting by conference coaches.
Kansas’ Dedric Lawson was selected newcomer of the year while teammate Quentin Grimes was the freshman of the year. The 6-10 Wade averaged 16.2 points and 6.2 rebounds a game last season.
No player from Texas or Oklahoma schools made the first team. The men’s preseason poll will be released Friday.
