Baylor's John Lovett to remain at running back after brief flirtation with safety

ARLINGTON -- John Lovett, Baylor's leading rusher a season ago, will remain in the backfield after plans to move him to the secondary were scrapped, Bears coach Matt Rhule said during the second day of Big 12 media days Tuesday.

In April, Rhule mentioned playing Lovett at safety given Baylor's depth at running back. But an injury in the spring limited Lovett's exposure to the position, making a potential transition to defense in the fall more difficult.

"We would have liked to have gone through the spring and let him play safety," Rhule said. "I really believe John can play 10 years at safety in the NFL, but he's also a great back.
