Historically, facing off against a Rex Ryan-led defense meant blitz-certainty. But last season, in his first year as the Bills’ head coach, Ryan’s defense was uncharacteristically conservative. The Bills notched 21 sacks and the former master of Organized Chaos dialed down the wild blitz looks for more conservative pressure schemes.
Part of the issue was the health of the secondary. With the return of Aaron Williams, and corners Stephen Gilmore and Ronald Darby poised to continue their ascent as one of the top CB duos in the league, Ryan has the horses on the back end to play more man coverage and take more chances.
