Already on the list of pitchers in contention to steal a spot in the Orioles’ rotation, right-hander Vance Worley walked in step with the rest of the team’s starters this spring in shrugging off an outing in which he said the statistics don’t match his own assessment.
Worley was mostly in control during his start against the Red Sox at JetBlue Stadium Thursday, working around a leadoff single in the first inning and only finding trouble with two outs already recorded in the second.
But the resulting three-run home run by Red Sox prospect Sam Travis, and a spate of infield singles and an error in a three-run fourth inning, left Worley wearing an unsightly pitching line: 3 1/3 innings, eight hits, six runs (four earned), and one strikeout.
