Orioles right-hander David Hess will make his major league debut in Game 1 of the Orioles’ doubleheader against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.
Manager Buck Showalter tabbed Hess as the Game 1 starter following the Orioles’ 9-4 win over the Rays on Friday night. He will officially be recalled from Triple-A Norfolk before the doubleheader.
Hess was previously recalled as an insurance bullpen arm for the April 15 game in Boston, but he didn’t pitch in that game and was optioned back to Norfolk the following day.
“You know he’s going to have a lot of adrenaline going,” Showalter said.
