Reports: Orioles Make GM Choice

The rebuilding Baltimore Orioles are closing in on their next general manager, according to multiple reports, and it's somebody who has helped engineer a rebuild before.

Mike Elias, now the assistant general manager of the Houston Astros, has emerged as the top choice. MLB.com reports the northern Virginia native will get to name an assistant. Also among his first responsibilities will be hiring a new manager.

The Orioles last month moved on from Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations Dan Duquette and manager Buck Showalter after a 115-loss season.

The Houston Chronicle reports Elias ran every draft since he arrived in Houston in 2011, picking future stars like Carlos Correa and Alex Bregman.
