KANSAS CITY -- A day after exiting Friday's game vs. the Royals with right shoulder discomfort, Orioles starter Yovani Gallardo was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder bicep tendinitis.
The move opened a slot for left-handed reliever Brian Matusz to be reinstated from the DL in time for Saturday's game in Kansas City.
Gallardo, a 10-year veteran, had never been on the DL for an arm-related issue and has made at least 30 starts in seven consecutive seasons. The 30-year-old lasted just two innings Friday in Kansas City before exiting with shoulder discomfort, and he traveled back to Baltimore to be examined Saturday.
