Orioles target Melvin Upton Jr. reportedly traded to rival Toronto Blue Jays

It appears the Orioles will see their interest in San Diego Padres outfielder Melvin Upton Jr., and the coinciding opportunity to offload the remaining contract of forgotten pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez, end without a deal made.

Multiple reports, including Fox Sports.com’s Ken Rosenthal, have the division rival Toronto Blue Jays acquiring Upton as of this morning.

Upton, like Jimenez, is owed a lot of money the rest of this year and next. The Orioles would have had to send cash to offset Jimenez’s salary, plus prospect value, to San Diego.
