Orioles shut down by Yankees rookie Luis Gil in his debut, Alexander Wells hit hard in 13-1 loss

Fresh from playing what manager Brandon Hyde called their most complete game of the season Monday night, the Orioles were drummed, 13-1, by the New York Yankees on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium in a game that warranted no such praise.

Rookie left-hander Alexander Wells, making his third start for the Orioles, didn’t finish the third inning and was charged with six runs on seven hits while being outdueled by debuting Yankees rookie Luis Gil.

Wells had a quick first inning but fell behind on a two-out, run-scoring double by Gleyber Torres in the second inning. He hit Greg Allen with a pitch to begin the third, then allowed four straight hits to the top of the Yankees lineup, struck out Joey Gallo, and was chased by a run-scoring double from Gary Sánchez.
