After striking out nine in 5 2/3 innings Wednesday at Triple-A Norfolk, right-hander Kevin Gausman (right shoulder tendinitis) is in contention to make his next start Monday for the Orioles in the series opener at the Tampa Bay Rays.
“He’s got a chance to pitch for us in his next outing,” Showalter said. “We’ll see how it all fluctuates.”
Monday would be right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez’s turn in the five-day rotation. Rainouts and days off have kept all of the Orioles starters off a five-day schedule this season, with Jimenez getting five and six days' rest between his two starts so far.
