Orioles' Manny Machado to drop appeal, will begin four-game suspension Sunday

Orioles shortstop Manny Machado dropped the appeal of his suspension Saturday and will begin serving his four-game punishment in Sunday’s series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Machado was issued the suspension for charging the mound after he was hit by a 99-mph first pitch fastball by Kansas City Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura on June 7, prompting a benches-clearing brawl. Machado was suspended four games and issued a $2,500 fine. Ventura was suspended nine games and also fined, but because he is a starting pitcher, he will only miss one start.
