Orioles lay off, furlough nearly 50 staff members as impact of coronavirus pandemic continues

The Orioles have laid off or furloughed 46 employees as a result of the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, according to two team sources with direct knowledge of the situation.

The team terminated 11 employees, three of them being full-time employees, and furloughed 35 others, with the temporary and permanent cuts affecting all organizational departments and employees both in Baltimore and at the team’s spring training site in Sarasota, Florida, according to the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media about the personnel situation. The plan is for the furloughed employees to be brought back Feb.
