Hardy plays through groin discomfort

BALTIMORE -- Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy started Saturday night's game against the Twins despite some pregame questions about groin discomfort.

Manager Buck Showalter said before the game that Hardy started having problems in that area during the latter part of Friday's 4-3 loss. Showalter put Hardy in the starting lineup Saturday but said the team would evaluate him after his pregame work. No changes were made, and Hardy began the game hitting eighth.

"He went out and did some things running around, some figure eights, whatever, and felt pretty good," Showalter said. "We'll see what the rest of the day brings.
