Britton gives up two runs in 9th, Orioles lose 7-6 to Rays

The Orioles faint playoff hopes took another blow thanks to a slow-rolling single this afternoon.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier hit a soft roller to second base and beat the throw to first for a walkoff single in a 7-6 Rays win.

The Orioles (73-76) were 61-1 when leading after the eighth before Sunday’s loss, their fourth in their last 12 games.

Zach Britton suffered his first loss of the year (4-1) and had blown just four saves in 38 chances.

Holding a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the ninth, Britton saw his first pitch smashed over the center field wall by pinch-hitter Brandon Guyer.
