With the pending activation of left-handed reliever Brian Matusz, the Orioles might soon see a major shift in a bullpen strategy from the one they’ve been proud of through the first few weeks of the season.
As one of their long relievers, rookie Tyler Wilson, was pitching Tuesday at Camden Yards, Matusz was striking out nine in four one-hit innings at High-A Frederick. Manager Buck Showalter said that’s what they wanted to see out of Matusz, and would reassess the left-hander's status after a few days. That puts him in contention to return this weekend when the team travels to Kansas City.
