On Thursday afternoon, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reported on Twitter that the Baltimore Orioles had claimed Jorge Mateo off waivers of the San Diego Padres after he was designated for assignment by San Diego on Tuesday. In correspondence with the claim, Baltimore designated Pat Valaika for assignment.
