'We're getting there': After starting the season late, Yorktown's eager to keep improving

YORKTOWN, Ind. — Following a 49-33 victory over Wapahani, Yorktown girls basketball coach Leigh Ann Barga kept going back to the same phrase.

"We're getting there," said Barga, who's now in her second year leading the Tigers.

That 16-point final, which brings Yorktown's record to 3-1 on the season, came as a result of the Tigers outscoring the Raiders 20-5 in the fourth quarter. In the third, the Tigers scored just two points after holding the Raiders to just one point in the second quarter.

Both teams missed their fair share of shots throughout the night but it was Yorktown's stingy full-court press and ability to convert from the free throw line (13-for-18) that gave the Tigers the eventual edge in what was their fourth game played in eight days.
