MUNCIE, Ind. — It started in the first quarter, the key reason Ball State lost against Florida Atlantic.

Ball State receiver Malik Dunner is sprinting across the field. He’s moving toward the Cardinals sideline, running behind quarterback Drew Plitt in the backfield as the ball is tossed his way. But in an instant the play is broken. Dunner couldn’t corral the toss. A FAU player grabs the fumble. And six plays and 31 yards later the Owls have their first touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
