TUCSON, Ariz. — Ball State made the most of its Arizona Bowl opportunity, topping No. 20 San Jose State for a 34-13 win Thursday to capture the program’s first-ever bowl victory.

The Cardinals never trailed as they coasted to a win that bumped up their record to 7-1, winning what is now their seventh-straight game. They opened up the scoring with an interception return for a touchdown by senior cornerback Antonio Phillips in the first quarter, a quarter that would end with BSU up 27-0. They went into halftime leading by that score, other touchdowns coming on the ground on runs by redshirt senior quarterback Drew Plitt, redshirt junior running back Will Jones and redshirt sophomore running back Tye Evans.
