MUNCIE, Ind. — Just as Ball State football coach Mike Neu was during the 2019 season, BSU men’s basketball coach James Whitford is in a position where he only has one season left on his contract after this season ends.
Whitford’s program is not facing the same level of uncertainty Neu’s had been at that time. Whitford has led his team to at least a share of the Mid-American Conference West Division title three times in the past five seasons, among other successes, while Neu’s still had yet to break through. But unlike coaches in the National Football League or National Basketball Association, college coaches have to deal with recruiting.
