New Castle's Mason Gillis to undergo knee surgery Friday: 'It's nothing really major'

MUNCIE, Ind. — New Castle star Mason Gillis will have surgery on Friday to repair a small meniscus tear in his right knee that he aggravated last weekend while playing for his Indiana Elite AAU team.

Gillis went up for a floater and came down straight-legged, jarring his knee and causing pain. He got an MRI on Monday afternoon and the doctor confirmed that he would need surgery. While the full extent won't be known until then, Gillis said the expectation is that he will be back in a couple weeks.

"The doctor's gonna go in and check it out, maybe shave off a little bit.
