DALLAS -- Michael VanDeventer and Johnny Watts carded even-par rounds of 71 Sunday to pace the Ball State men's golf team among a strong national field at the Trinity Forest Invitational.

The Cardinals were solid across the board on the opening day of the event. The team also counted rounds of 72 from Timothy Wiseman and 74 from Michael Makris. Jack Cunningham's 76 was the non-counting score, and the freshman was under par with the exception of two holes.

Ball State's team score of 288 (+4) for the day was good enough for ninth among the field of 13 teams at Trinity Forest Golf Club, the future home of the PGA Tour's AT&T Byron Nelson.
