MUNCIE, Ind. — James Whitford said he and his coaching staff heard rumors in September that Luke Brown was going to enter the transfer portal.
They monitored the situation and, minutes after Brown's name was in the portal, Whitford reached out to the former Indiana All-Star. Whitford had been recruiting Brown since his sophomore year at Blackford High School in Hartford City. Brown — who finished fourth on the state's all-time scoring list with 3,011 points and helped the Bruins to their first semistate appearance in 2021 — originally chose to enroll at Stetson.
But Brown entered the portal because he wanted to get closer to home.
