Led by new coach, talented senior class, New Castle volleyball seeks 4th straight state title

NEW CASTLE, Ind. — This season, New Castle volleyball has a chance to accomplish a rare feat.

In the history of the Indiana High School Athletic Association, only 40 teams have won four or more consecutive state titles in any sport. In volleyball, it's only happened twice with Muncie Burris (1997 to 2010) and Marquette Catholic (2004 to 2009) recording streaks of 14 and six straight championships, respectively.

If New Castle wins a state championship again this year, it would move into uncharted territory. During their runs, neither Burris nor Marquette Catholic dealt with the tournament success factor, which was implemented by the IHSAA in 2013 and moves a team up a class based on its postseason success.
