Led by Ishmael El-Amin, BSU men’s basketball doesn't lack confidence ahead of season opener

MUNCIE, Ind. — This past Thursday, Ball State basketball coach James Whitford opened up about a conversation he’d had with his staff just the day before.

Take away the pandemic everyone is dealing with, and prior to BSU’s season opener Wednesday at Northern Kentucky his team already knows it’ll be without redshirt sophomore guard Jarron Coleman and redshirt senior guard/forward Reggie Jones for an extended period of time due to injury. Redshirt junior forward Miryne Thomas and redshirt sophomore guard/forward Kani Acree could be limited due to injury as well. In practice, Whitford sees a team that is “light years” away from playing at the level he believes it’s capable of.
