‘Landed in the right place’: Ball State takes stock after NCAA grants spring-sports athletes extra year of eligibility

MUNCIE, Ind. — Ball State athletic director Beth Goetz said she couldn’t comment on how other conferences around the country felt, but that philosophically the news the NCAA handed down Monday aligned with her hopes and that of the Mid-American Conference.

Eighteen days after it became apparent what coronavirus concerns would mean for the world of sports. Eighteen days after the NCAA announced all remaining winter and spring championships had been canceled. Eighteen days after Ball State followed the MAC’s lead and canceled all athletics activities through the end of the current academic year.

The NCAA announced the Division I Council voted to allow its schools to provide spring-sports athletes with another year of eligibility.
